Computing

At Archbishop Cranmer CE Primary Academy, we believe that Computing equips children with the knowledge, skills and confidence to thrive in an increasingly digital world. Through creative, practical experiences, pupils learn to become responsible digital citizens, confident problem-solvers and thoughtful creators who use technology safely, purposefully and imaginatively.

Through our vision of 'life in all its fullness' (John 10:10), we aim to develop pupils who use technology with curiosity, responsibility and integrity, recognising both the opportunities and responsibilities that come with living in a connected world.

Our Computing curriculum is carefully designed to develop:

  • computational thinking and problem-solving
  • creativity through digital media and programming
  • confidence using a wide range of digital technologies
  • understanding of computer systems, networks and emerging technologies
  • digital citizenship, online safety and responsible use of technology

Through engaging, practical learning, pupils develop their understanding across the three strands of Computer Science, Information Technology and Digital Literacy. Children learn to create digital content, write and debug programs, analyse data, communicate effectively using technology and understand how digital systems work. They also develop the critical thinking needed to evaluate online information and use technology safely, respectfully and responsibly. 

Computing learning is enriched through:

  • creative digital projects across the wider curriculum
  • programming using Scratch, Python and physical computing devices
  • opportunities to explore emerging technologies including Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality
  • dedicated online safety teaching through Be Internet Legends, iLearn2 and Safer Internet Day
  • meaningful opportunities to develop digital collaboration and communication skills

Across school, pupils follow the iLearn2 curriculum, which provides a carefully sequenced progression of knowledge and skills from EYFS to Year 6. Learning is regularly revisited and built upon, enabling children to become increasingly confident users and creators of technology. Alongside technical skills, pupils develop a strong understanding of online safety, digital wellbeing, media literacy and responsible online behaviour, preparing them to participate safely and positively in the digital world.

At Archbishop Cranmer, we encourage children to approach technology with curiosity, creativity and responsibility. Through our Take Care learning behaviours, pupils become resilient, independent learners who understand that technology should be used to create, communicate, collaborate and make a positive difference in the world around them.
