Our Timetable - Spring Term

Please note that our PE day is on a Wednesday with Mr Gomersall and the KS2 Team/ Harvey and Zenith Sports. Please come to school dressed in PE kit on these days. Earrings and other jewellery should be removed for PE and hair tied back where possible.

PE Kit includes:

• Red or dark PE hoodies,  black or grey tracksuit trousers or shorts (unbranded)
• Black, grey or white trainers
• Zip-up sports jackets are suitable for colder weather.

 

Curriculum Overview

Spring Term: 

• English: We will begin this term by linking our English with History and reading the text 'Windrush Child' by Benjamin Zephaniah. During this, pupils will be gaining an understanding of what it means to be part of the Windrush Generation and how it still affects society today. They will create letters, setting descriptions, diary entries and dialogues based on the story.
• Maths: Shape, statistics, algebra, position and direction
• Science: Light and Evolution
• History: Black and British
• Geography: Why does population change?
• Art/ DT: Photography and structures
• Computing: Virtual reality, machine learning and AI
• Music: Musical effects and moods
• Physical Education: Ball skills by hand (hockey and basketball)
• Religious Education: Spirited arts
• Relationships, Sex and Health Education (including Economic Education): Making babies - assisted fertility and multiple births  

Homework

Spellings:

We send home 10 words each week for the children to practise spelling. These words are taken from the list for their year group in the National Curriculum. Spellings will be tested on a Wednesday. Children in year 6 are also expected to put their spellings into sentences for homework each week. This is so they understand each spelling in the correct context.

Reading

Please read with your child as often as possible, even if only for a few minutes. Organisers will be checked every Wednesday. 

Please date and sign their organiser each time they read to an adult, and encourage them to read a range of text types. Useful documents including key questions to support with hearing your child read can be found below. The Year 6 Reading Challenge challenges children to read at least 100 pages per week to an adult outside of school each week with a minimum of 3 times or more. Personal Organisers are collected in every Wednesday. If they have read at least 3 times a week, every week, all term, they will receive a special reward.

Children will be given complete comprehension homework every Tuesday, which will be handed in and marked the following Tuesday. 

Please note that we encourage the children in Year 6 to take responsibility for changing their own colour-banded books as they come into school each morning.

Creative Homework

• Creative Homework may be assigned once every term. This will always be themed around our current learning topic. It is not compulsory, but does benefit your child’s learning and engagement with the topic in school. They will always have a chance to have their work shared within the class if completed.
