SMSC

At Archbishop Cranmer CE Primary Academy, spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development is at the heart of our vision of ‘life in all its fullness’ (John 10:10).

We believe that education is about developing the whole child—academically, socially, emotionally, morally and spiritually. Through our Christian vision, values and Take Care learning behaviours, we support pupils to grow into confident, compassionate and responsible individuals.

Our Approach to SMSC

SMSC development is woven throughout all aspects of school life, including:

our curriculum and wider enrichment opportunities
collective worship and reflection
pupil leadership and courageous advocacy
educational visits and community engagement
relationships, wellbeing and pastoral support

Children are encouraged to reflect, ask questions, explore beliefs and values, and develop respect for themselves and others.

Spiritual Development

We provide opportunities for pupils to:

reflect on their experiences and the world around them
develop curiosity, awe and wonder
explore faith, beliefs and big questions
understand their own values and sense of identity

Reflection spaces, collective worship, outdoor learning and Picture News discussions all support spiritual development across school.

Moral, Social and Cultural Development

Pupils are supported to:

understand right and wrong
show respect, responsibility and empathy
celebrate diversity and inclusion
develop positive relationships
contribute positively to society

British Values and protected characteristics are actively promoted through our curriculum, assemblies, pupil leadership opportunities and wider school experiences.

SMSC in Action

Our SMSC provision includes:

weekly Picture News assemblies and class reflection opportunities
Diversity and Equity Leaders promoting inclusion and awareness
pupil leadership through Pupil Parliament and worship teams
community projects and charitable work
outdoor learning and cultural enrichment opportunities

Through these experiences, pupils develop the confidence and understanding needed to engage positively with the world around them.
