Church Partnerships 2019-20

July 2020

Reverend Tim joined us to host our Year 6 Leavers' Service at school (as Church remains closed during Covid-19).He handed out the Bibles and bought the children their Y6 to Y7 transition books to help them on their way!


March 2020

Year 3, 4 and 5 went on pilgrimage as they 'Time Travelled' to Southwell Minster for a day full of activities.


February 2020

Year 1 and Year 2  explored the village, retracing the footsteps of Thomas Cranmer. They visited Cranmer Mound and walked to St John of Beverley Church in Whatton, where Thomas Cranmer worshipped hundreds of years ago

  • We enjoyed an Ash Wednesday service in school led by Canon Peter Watkins











January 2020

  • Riverside Church held worship showing how Jesus is the light of the world
  • .We welcomed a member of our church community to talk to us about Epiphany and all the different celebrations around the world. 
  • Our Year 3 children visited York Minster. They all agreed the stained glass windows were beautiful. 


December 2019 

Celebrating our village Christmas Tree Festival at St Thomas' Church. Our own school tree was there amongst many others!


November 2019

  • Our art club enjoyed sketching at St Thomas' Church. Come and see the stunning art work we produced!
  • The local community joined us all for a beautiful Remembrance Day Service at St Thomas Church Aslockton led by  our Year 6 Leaders along with Aslockton villager Tim Chamberlin, who is the chairman of the East Midlands branch of the Western Front Association.               

October 2019

  • Our children designed a Community Christmas Card - the winning design to be made into a card and distributed to the local parish. 
  • Our local community joined us for our Harvest Festival at St Thomas' Church: every child in school took part in our Harvest celebration and we took Harvest gifts to support a local community.    .

September 2019

  • Our Foundation stage children were welcomed to St Thomas' Church at our Welcome Service and were very happy to receive their Bibles. They were supported by our Year 5 children who helped them look for the lost sheep! 
  • All of KS2 joined Bishop Alison from Hull to take part in the Nottinghamshire Out Reach event. We shared our own reflections and prayers, sang our school hymns amongst others and shared some dancing as well. 
  • Sue, from Riverside Church, led whole school Collective Worship. We all enjoyed the songs and also the bookmarks!                                                                                                                                                                  


 July 2019 

Seven years after their welcome service at St Thomas, we said farewell to our Year 6 children at their Leavers' Service. The children chose to sing The Lord is my Shepherd (thank you to Lucy's mum for piano accompaniment) and our school song We Being Many. Thank you to our governors for handing the children their Bibles and for handing out the awards. Please see the July newsletter for the winners of the Cranmer Cup Character and Integrity Award, the Hilary Mantel Outstanding Writing Award and the Maddison Profound Personal Development Award.  

June 2019

We enjoyed a special service in Church when we took part in Thy Kingdom Come joining in the global wave of prayer calling all Christians to pray between Ascension and Pentecost for more people to come to know Jesus Christ. Thank you to Mrs Wood and to our governor Dr Bullock for helping us with some of our activities. 

May 2019 

Our Year 6 children had opportunity to look at differences between our church and St Oswald's in Ashbourne, Derbyshire. 


April 2019 

We enjoyed a wonderful Easter Service, led by KS2 children,  with all our parents and other members of the local community. Thank you to all the helpers who escorted our younger children through the village as part of their Easter Bonnet parade.

March 2019

Our KS2 children visiting Padley Chapel in Derbyshire which we compared with our local church. We impressed the staff here with our knowledge of the British Monarchy.


Year 1 and 2 went to St Thomas' church  to search for special artefacts and symbols of Christianity. They drew the things we found and wrote about why they were important.

 Year 1 and 2 had an interesting morning at Nottingham Liberal Synagogue where they made some great comparisons between Christian and Jewish places of worship, as well as looking at some genuine artefacts and beautiful community pieces.


The whole school enjoyed our Christmas service in Church.

Key Stage 1 and Foundation returned to sing songs from our Nativity.

Everyone visited to look at the beautiful Christmas trees.

As a new Foundation Stage pupil you will get to celebrate the start of your journey with us in our beautiful village church St Thomas. 7 years later, we say a special goodbye to you in the same church!
