Mrs Hodgson - Class 2

Welcome to Class 2!

2021-2022

Welcome to Class 2 with Mrs Hodgson. Our class page includes lots of useful information about all of the things that we get Up2 in our busy and exciting classroom.

In Class 2 we work alongside Mrs Landers as our teaching partner. Mrs Landers will be working in Class 2 on Monday, Thursday and Friday morning, she also covers my out of class time on a Thursday afternoon. Mrs Jackson also volunteers in Class 2 on Tuesday mornings. We are also looking forward to welcoming back Miss Murphy who will be supporting in Class 2 as part of her final SCITT placement.

This spring term our topic is 'Africa' and we are looking forward to finding out lots about the second largest continent in the world, discovering some of the continent’s rich history and learning about its geographical features. In science we will be learning about animals and how humans are animals too, as well as what we all need to survive and stay healthy. Alongside this, we will be learning all about the artist Barbara Hepworth and her sculptures; designing and making African-inspired fabric bunting in DT and; listening and responding to stories of Jesus in our RE lessons, and much, much more!

If you have would like to share any information or expertise, or have an hour to spare to help out in Class 2, please let Mrs Hodgson know!

Useful information:

  • Our PE lessons are on Thursday afternoons with Mrs Landers (outdoor PE) and Friday afternoons with Mrs Hodgson (indoor PE). We ask that on these days your child comes to school wearing their PE kit and brings a pair of clean shoes to wear indoors. Earrings should also be removed or covered at home. You may wish to include some warmer clothing for our outdoor sessions, particularly when the weather is colder. PE kits should include socks, a pair of trainers for outdoor games and plimsolls for indoor games. Please make sure that all items of clothing are named, including shoes.
  • We have a daily show and tell in class - the timetable for this half term can be found below, and a paper copy is sent home each term.
  • Homework is sent home on a Thursday and should be returned to the 'I've finished my homework' tray by the following Tuesday. The homework task is set to practise a concept the children have been learning during the week. We also send home 10 words each week for the children to learn to spell. Spelling tests take place each Wednesday.
  • Mrs Hodgson's Reading Challenge challenges each child in Year 2 to read 3 times or more to an adult outside of school each week. Reading records are collected in each Friday to reward the super-readers with a dip in the goodie bag.

We are really excited to be taking part in the Linking programme in partnership with The Linking Network in Class 2 starting in February 2022. We are looking forward to connecting with Downie Class at Arnbrook Primary School in Arnold to share cards, photographs, videos and more before meeting one another virtually later in the Spring term! The programme is an excellent opportunity for us in Class 2 to learn about identity, diversity, community and equality through connecting with another class with different backgrounds. Find out more about The Linking Network here.

Look out for what we've been Up2 as part of the linking programme here on our class page and on our Twitter and Facebook feeds.

Year 2 families can also get involved in the Linking programme. Why not try some of the below activities and bring your responses in to share with Mrs Hodgson or Mrs Stevens!
