Mrs Hodgson - Class 2

Welcome to Class 2!

Welcome to Class 2 with Mrs Hodgson. Our class page includes lots of useful information about all of the things that we get Up2 in our busy and exciting classroom.

In Class 2 we work alongside Mrs Landers as our teaching partner. Mrs Landers will be working in Class 2 on Monday, Thursday and Friday morning, she also covers my out of class time on a Thursday afternoon. Mrs Thacker will also be supporting on Tuesday afternoons and Thursday mornings.

This autumn term our topic is 'Fire and Light: The Great Fire of London' and we are looking forward to finding out lots about how London has changed and how this historical event changed our lives today. We will learn about the significance of Guy Fawkes and why we celebrate Bonfire Night, as well as learning about the festival of Diwali. We will also be learning about properties of materials in science and making our own moving pictures inspired by the Great Fire in DT. In our art lessons we will be looking at the work of Mark Rothko to learn about colour, where we will create our own colour field paintings. Alongside this, we will considering what makes a good leader in our RE lessons, and much, much more!

Useful information:

  • Our PE lessons are on Tuesday mornings with A Chance to Shine Cricket (for the first half term) and Thursday afternoons with Mrs Landers (outdoor PE). After October half term, once Cricket has finished, our second PE session will be on Friday afternoons with Mrs Hodgson (indoor PE). We ask that on these days your child comes to school wearing their PE kit and brings a pair of clean shoes to wear indoors. Earrings should also be removed or covered at home. You may wish to include some warmer clothing for our outdoor sessions, particularly when the weather is colder. PE kits should include socks, a pair of trainers for outdoor games and plimsolls for indoor games. Please make sure that all items of clothing are named, including shoes.
  • We have a daily show and tell in class - the timetable for this half term can be found below, and a paper copy is sent home each term.
  • Homework is sent home on a Thursday and should be returned to the 'I've finished my homework' tray by the following Tuesday. The homework task is set to practise a concept the children have been learning during the week. We also send home 10 words each week for the children to learn to spell. Spelling tests take place each Wednesday.
  • Mrs Hodgson's Reading Challenge challenges each child in Year 2 to read 3 times or more to an adult outside of school each week. Reading records are collected in each Friday to reward the super-readers with a dip in the goodie bag.
