Mrs Hodgson - Class 2

Welcome to Class 2!

Welcome to Class 2 with Mrs Hodgson. Our class page includes lots of useful information about all of the things that we get Up2 in our busy and exciting classroom.

In Class 2 we work alongside Mrs Weaver and Mrs Jackson as our teaching partners. Mrs Weaver will be working in Class 2 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday mornings and covers my out of class time on a Thursday afternoon. Mrs Jackson will be working in Class 2 on Monday and Thursday mornings.

This spring term our topic is 'Amazing Aslockton' and we are looking forward to finding out lots about our local area, including the history of the village and our links with Thomas Cranmer, and exploring our village as geographers to consider the physical and human features. Alongside this, we will be learning all about the artist LS Lowry, taking inspiration from his responses to his home town; exploring empathy and forgiveness in PSHE and; in RE we will be learning all about Judaism and drawing comparisons to Christianity, as well as preparing for Easter by thinking about why it is an important time for Christians.

Keep a look out for the 'What we are learning this week' poster on our classroom door for more specific details on what we are focussing on this week in class.

Useful information:

  • Our PE lessons are on Tuesday and Friday afternoons. Please make sure named PE kits are in school all week in case of extra opportunities. You may wish to include some warmer clothing for our outdoor sessions, particularly when the weather is colder. PE kits should include socks, a pair of trainers for outdoor games and plimsolls for indoor games. Please make sure that all items of clothing are named.
  • We have a daily show and tell in class - the timetable for this half term can be found below, and is displayed on the cloakroom noticeboard.
  • Homework is sent home on a Thursday and should be returned to the 'I've finished my homework' tray by the following Tuesday. The homework task is set to practise a concept the children have been learning during the week. We also send home 10 words each week for the children to learn to spell. Spelling tests take place each Wednesday.
  • Mrs Hodgson's Reading Challenge challenges each child in Year 2 to read 3 times or more to an adult outside of school each week. Reading records are collected in each Friday to reward the super-readers with a dip in the goodie bag.
  • The cloakroom noticeboard is full of useful information including the week's spellings, timetables, dinner menus and up-to-date letters.
