Welcome to Class 6 with Mrs Wicks and Mr Green.
This page has useful information about the day to day running of Class 6 and about what we get up to in our busy, exciting classroom.
In Class 6 Mrs Wicks teaches on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and Mr Green teaches on Thursdays and Fridays. We both work alongside our teaching partner, Miss Wilkinson.
This term our topic is Who's got the Power? (please see curriculum overview)
The children will look at the development of our democracy in our country over a millennium from William the Conqueror and a society organised under feudal control, through the development of Parliament and the House of Commons under the reign of successive kings and queens. They will examine the increasing role of ordinary people through a chronological study of pivotal moments while playing, among other roles, the part of juror at the trial of Charles I and a detective examining the case of a suffragette. We will develop our UK map knowledge and broaden our map skills to examine and use different sorts of maps such as thematic maps of population of Britain in our study of democracy today.
Our science focus is:
Spring 1 - Evolution and Inheritance. The children will learn how the fossil record reveals that living things have changed over time and identify how animals and plants are adapted to suit their environment leading to evolution.
Spring 2 - Animals including humans. They will identify the main parts of the human circulatory system, describe their functions and the ways in which nutrients and water are transported within animals.
In English we will write texts in a range of fiction, non-fiction and poetry genres. The life of Charles Darwin will provide the stimulus for a unit of biographical writing while a short film called 'Pandora' will be the starting point for writing factual report texts. A large format picture book, ‘Moth-An evolution story’ will be the inspiration for creative writing in the form of a children’s story. The final unit of the term is a poetry unit based upon another short animated film called ’Little Freak.’
Our class text for this term is The Great Sea Dragon Discovery by Pippa Goodheart
In P.E. we will focus on handball, tri-golf and table tennis
If you have/would like to share any information or expertise on any of the above, please let Mrs Wicks and Mr Green know!
