 Welcome to Class 2!  

We hope that you have all had a lovely summer break and we are delighted to welcome you to Class 2! The Year 2 team are looking forward to working together to make this year an exciting and productive year which the children will enjoy.  

Our class page is your ‘go to’ place for all key information and contains useful details about our learning this year. Mrs Lock, Mr Gomersall and Mrs Willis are all excited to begin our learning journey, during which, we will be covering some exciting topics and learning lots of new skills. If you have any questions or queries, please don’t hesitate to pop in after school and we’ll be happy to help.

Our Timetable - Autumn Term 

PE Kit includes: 

• Red or dark PE hoodies, black or grey tracksuit trousers or shorts (unbranded) 

• Black, grey or white trainers 

• Zip-up sports jackets are suitable for colder weather. 

Curriculum Overview 

Autumn Term 1: 

• English: We will be writing short narratives to entertain. Our class book will be Fantastic Mr Fox  
• Maths: Place Value, Addition & Subtraction, Shape 
• Science: Habitats- the children will consider life processes that all living things have in common as well as classifying, studying habitats and looking at food chains. 
• History/ Geography: The children will learn about the work of significant individuals from the past, learning about events beyond living memory and changes within living memory through discovering the work of inventors The Wright Brothers. 
• Art/ DT: Pupils are introduced to the idea that artists are inspired by the world around them and will go out into the world, re-see, collect and re-present through drawing. Pupils will create wax-resist collage art inspired by Monet. 
• Computing: E-Safety + Uses of ICT  
• Music: Y2 will learn songs and activities to get children performing together rhythmically. The children will perform actions and movements to a steady pulse and play simple musical passing games.
• Physical Education: Coordination & Balance 
• Religious Education: Good News- pupils will learn about the concept of ‘Gospel’ and the good news of forgiveness, peace and love that Christians believe Jesus brings. 
• Relationships, Sex and Health Education (including Economic Education): We will learn about how we can look after our bodies to stay healthy. 

Reading 

Please read with your child as often as possible, even if only for a few minutes. Research shows that regular sharing of books and stories with your child makes a positive impact on their academic success. Within the first few weeks of school, your child will be provided with a reading record and reading books. In order to celebrate excellent reading at home, each child who has read 3 or more times to an adult outside of school during the week, will be rewarded so please date and sign their reading record each time they read to an adult, and encourage them to show off their super phonics skills and comprehension skills. Volunteers to hear readers are always welcome! Please speak to Mrs Lock if you’re able to offer any time.
