    Our class page is your go-to place for all of the key information about our learning journey together this year. The team can't wait to support you in your progress and learning this year, where we will be exploring lots of exciting new concepts and skills!

    Our Timetable - Summer Term

     

    Our PE lessons are now on Monday and Friday afternoons. Children may come to school in PE kit which should include appropriate clothing and footwear for both indoor and outdoor activities and the weather that day as most PE lessons will take place whatever the weather. As we approach the summer months, please ensure that children have a sunhat and have applied sun cream. Please make sure that all items of clothing are named.  

    PE Kit includes:

    • Red or dark PE hoodies,  black or grey tracksuit trousers or shorts (unbranded)

    • Black, grey or white trainers

    • Zip-up sports jackets are suitable for colder weather.

     

    Curriculum Overview

    Summer Term 1:

    • English: Persuasive writing (letters); narrative work based on The Iron Man by Ted Hughes; developing paragraph writing. 
    • Maths: Capacity; Fractions; Money; Time; Shape; Statistics; continued focus on the four operations and times tables. 
    • Science: Learning about parts of flowering plants; investigating how plants transport water; understanding life cycles and seed dispersal. 
    • Geography: Types of settlement in the UK; locating cities and regions; using OS maps; fieldwork in the local village; comparing human and physical features. 
    • History: The Roman invasion of Britain; chronology, key events and figures (including Boudicca); why the Romans were successful; their legacy in Britain. 
    • Art: Botanical drawing using observation; using oil pastels; selecting compositions with viewfinders; creating clay tiles. 
    • DT: Strengthening structures through designing and making castles using cardboard. 
    • Computing: 
    • Music: Exploring pitch, notation and the pentatonic scale. 
    • Physical Education: Developing fundamental movement and athletics skills. 
    • Religious Education: Creation story and caring for the world; exploring how different worldviews (Christian, Jewish, Muslim and non-religious) show responsibility for the world. 
    • Relationships, Health and Economic Education: HeartSmart focus on resilience and being the best version of yourself. 
    • Modern Foreign Languages: Learning French vocabulary linked to animals. 

    Summer Term 2:

    • English: Non-fiction writing including instructional texts (linked to maps) and non-chronological reports; continued focus on accurate paragraph writing. 
    • Maths: Continued consolidation of key units and arithmetic skills.
    • Science: Continued plant investigations and enquiry work.
    • Geography/History: Applying mapping and enquiry skills; deepening understanding of settlements and local area changes.
    • Art/DT: Completing final DT project on strengthening structures; continuing creative work.
    • Computing: 
    • Music: Continuing work on pitch and musical structure.
    • Physical Education: Developing athletics skills and preparing for sports events.
    • Religious Education: Continuing exploration of beliefs, values and caring for the world.
    • Relationships, Health and Economic Education: Continuing focus on resilience and personal development.

    Outdoor Learning: Where possible we will spend time learning outdoors and will enjoy using the outdoor learning area and the large grounds we are fortunate to have as a school. Therefore please can you ensure that your child has a suitable waterproof coat every day in school. This will enable us to provide opportunities to take their learning outside.   

    Homework

    Reading and spellings form part of weekly homework and any additional homework will be sent home when consolidation is needed. 

    Spellings will be set on a Tuesday and tested the following Tuesday. 10 new spellings will be sent home and  children should know how to spell the words and be able to use them in a sentence.  Spelling Frame can be used as a way to practise their weekly spelling rules at home.   

    The Year 3 Reading Challenge - we would like the children to read at least three times a week and to see the planner signed at least three times a week by an adult please. The reading section of the diary will be looked at every Friday children who read 3 times a week, every week in a half term will be rewarded. 

    Times tables will be practised on a Friday. Children will use https://www.timestables.co.uk to practise their speed of recall of times tables facts up to 12x12. This will support their learning in preparation for the National Multiplication Tables Check in Year 4. Children will be given personal log in details for timestables.co.uk to practise at home.  

    Creative Homework may be assigned once every term. This will always be themed around our current learning topic. 

    Reading

    Please read with your child as often as possible, even if only for a few minutes. 

    Miss Robinson will check the children's reading records each Friday. Please date and sign their reading record each time they read to an adult, and encourage them to read a range of text types. Useful documents including key questions to support with hearing your child read can be found below. These will also be sent home with the children at the start of the academic year.
