Our class page is your go-to place for all of the key information about our learning journey together this year. The team can't wait to support your child's progress and learning this year, where we will be exploring lots of exciting new concepts and skills!

Our Timetable - Autumn Term 

 

Please note that our PE day is on a Wednesday with the KS2 Team/ Harvey and Zenith Sports. Please come to school dressed in PE kit on these days. Earrings and other jewellery should be removed for PE and hair tied back where possible.

PE Kit includes:

• Red or dark PE hoodies,  black or grey tracksuit trousers or shorts (unbranded)
• Black, grey or white trainers
• Zip-up sports jackets are suitable for colder weather.

  

Curriculum Overview 

  Autumn Term 1

• Maths: Developing our understanding of place value, we will apply our knowledge to all four operations.  
• Science: Through our work on living things, we will explore how different organisms are classified and how they are connected.
• History: Our History learning will focus on World War II, exploring key events and what life was like during this important period. 
• Art: Inspired by the work of war artist Paul Nash, we will explore different techniques to create our own wartime artwork. 
• Computing: In Computing, we will explore web design while developing our understanding of how to stay safe online. 
• Physical Education: We will develop our throwing skills before putting them into practice through a range of invasion games. 

Autumn Term 2

• Maths: Building on our mathematical knowledge, we will develop our understanding of fractions and measurement. 
• Science: We will investigate light and energy, exploring how they work and their importance in the world around us. 
• Geography: Exploring the question ‘Why does our population change?’, we will investigate the reasons why populations grow, shrink and move. 
• DT: Using a range of sewing techniques, we will develop our practical skills and create a textile product. 
• Computing: We will explore graphic design and photo and image editing before considering how computers have developed from the past to the present day. 
• Physical Education: Developing our teamwork and coordination, we will take part in net and wall games alongside invasion games.

 

Reading 

Please read with your child as often as possible, even if only for a few minutes. Organisers will be checked every Wednesday. 

Please date and sign their organiser each time they read to an adult, and encourage them to read a range of text types. Useful documents including key questions to support with hearing your child read can be found below. The Year 6 Reading Challenge challenges children to read at least 100 pages per week to an adult outside of school each week with a minimum of 3 times or more. Personal Organisers are collected in every Wednesday. If they have read at least 3 times a week, every week, all term, they will receive a special reward.

Children will be given complete comprehension homework every Tuesday, which will be handed in and marked the following Tuesday. 

Please note that we encourage the children in Year 6 to take responsibility for changing their own colour-banded books as they come into school each morning.

 

Homework

• Creative Homework may be assigned once every term. This will always be themed around our current learning topic. It is not compulsory, but does benefit your child’s learning and engagement with the topic in school. They will always have a chance to have their work shared within the class if completed.
• Spellings are tested every Wednesday and new words are then handed out for the following week. It is the children’s responsibility to fill in their organisers each week. Not only to learn their spellings, but to put these words into context with sentence practise and categorise them into their word class. This is essential to their understanding of not just spelling, but to enable them to apply them in their writing and to support their grammar. All spellings are handed out each term, but these can also be found below as a PDF.
• Reading homework will be given out every Tuesday, as mentioned above.
