At Archbishop Cranmer CE Primary Academy, we believe that Geography inspires curiosity about the world and helps children understand the people, places and environments that shape our lives.

Through our vision of 'life in all its fullness' (John 10:10), we aim to develop pupils who are inquisitive, responsible and environmentally aware geographers, equipped with the knowledge and skills to explore the world around them and understand their role within it.

Our Geography curriculum is carefully designed to develop:

• secure locational and place knowledge
• understanding of physical and human geography
• curiosity about diverse environments, cultures and communities
• confidence in geographical enquiry and fieldwork
• appreciation of how people and the environment influence one another

Through enquiry-based learning and practical fieldwork, pupils are encouraged to ask questions, investigate places and think critically about the world around them. Children develop both substantive knowledge (understanding places, environments and geographical processes) and disciplinary knowledge (thinking and working as geographers through observation, fieldwork, mapping and data collection), enabling them to explain geographical patterns and make informed decisions about the world they live in.

Geography learning is enriched through:

• fieldwork within our school grounds and local community
• educational visits and outdoor learning experiences
• map work using atlases, globes and digital technology
• learning about diverse countries, cultures and environments
• meaningful links across the wider curriculum

Across school, pupils explore a wide range of geographical concepts, including continents and oceans, weather and climate, rivers, mountains, volcanoes, settlements, trade, sustainability and environmental change. They investigate places within the United Kingdom and around the world, developing an understanding of both physical and human geography whilst recognising the similarities and differences between communities and environments.

At Archbishop Cranmer, we encourage children to be curious about the world, ask thoughtful questions and develop a sense of responsibility for caring for God's creation. Through our Take Care learning behaviours, pupils become confident, reflective and increasingly independent geographers who understand the importance of making informed choices for the future of our planet.
