  • Writing

At Archbishop Cranmer CE Primary Academy, we believe that writing gives children a voice. Through writing, pupils are able to communicate ideas, express creativity, share experiences and deepen their understanding of the world around them.

Through our vision of ‘life in all its fullness’ (John 10:10), we aim to develop confident, purposeful writers who take pride in their work and understand the power of language.

Our writing curriculum is carefully sequenced to ensure pupils develop:

    • secure transcription and handwriting skills
    • accurate spelling, punctuation and grammar
    • rich vocabulary and language choices
    • stamina and independence as writers
    • the ability to write for a range of audiences and purposes

Writing opportunities are purposeful, engaging and rooted in high-quality texts, meaningful experiences and wider curriculum learning. Children are encouraged to develop their own authorial voice whilst building the technical skills needed to write effectively.

Across school, pupils write in a range of genres and subjects, enabling them to apply and deepen their learning in meaningful contexts. We place strong emphasis on speaking and vocabulary development as foundations for successful writing.

At Archbishop Cranmer, we encourage children to take pride in their writing, reflect on their work and develop resilience as learners. Through our Take Care learning behaviours, pupils are supported to become thoughtful, ambitious and increasingly independent writers.
