    At Archbishop Cranmer CE Primary Academy, we believe that science inspires curiosity, enquiry and a deeper understanding of the world around us.

    Through our vision of ‘life in all its fullness’ (John 10:10), we aim to develop pupils who are inquisitive, reflective and enthusiastic scientists, equipped with the knowledge and skills to explore and make sense of the world God created.

    Our science curriculum is carefully designed to develop:

    • secure scientific knowledge and understanding
    • curiosity and a love of investigation
    • questioning, prediction and reasoning skills
    • confidence in working scientifically
    • understanding of the importance of science in everyday life

    Through practical, hands-on experiences, pupils are encouraged to explore, investigate and think critically. Children develop their scientific understanding through observation, discussion, experimentation and enquiry-based learning.

    Science learning is enriched through:

    • practical investigations and active learning opportunities
    • outdoor learning and environmental studies
    • links to sustainability and caring for the world around us
    • STEM experiences and workshops
    • meaningful links across the wider curriculum

    Across school, pupils explore a wide range of scientific concepts, including living things and habitats, forces, materials, evolution, space and sustainability. Examples of learning experiences include investigating micro-habitats, researching life cycles, exploring soils and composting, studying palaeontology and taking part in STEM workshops such as building sustainable villages. 

    At Archbishop Cranmer, we encourage children to ask questions, think deeply and develop resilience as learners. Through our Take Care learning behaviours, pupils are supported to become confident, reflective and increasingly independent scientists.
