    • Relationships and Sex Education

    At Archbishop Cranmer Church of England Primary Academy, our vision is rooted in “life in all its fullness” (John 10:10). Our Relationships, Health and Sex Education (RHSE) curriculum supports pupils to grow into confident, respectful and responsible individuals who can flourish in modern society.

    What is RHSE?

    RHSE (Relationships, Health and Sex Education) forms part of our wider personal development curriculum. It includes:

    Relationships Education

    • building positive, respectful relationships
    • understanding family, friendship and community
    • online relationships and staying safe
    • respect, kindness and inclusion

    Health Education

    • physical health and healthy lifestyles
    • mental health and emotional wellbeing
    • personal safety and risk management

    Sex Education

    • learning about the human body and puberty
    • understanding how babies are conceived and born

    Parents may request to withdraw their child from the non-statutory sex education elements of the curriculum. Please note that parents do not have the right to withdraw their child from Relationships Education or Health Education. Requests should be discussed with the school.

    Our Curriculum

    From September 2026, we will use the Kapow Primary RSE and PSHE scheme of work.

    This scheme:

    • fully meets statutory requirements set out by the Department for Education
    • provides a carefully sequenced curriculum from Reception to Year 6
    • builds knowledge and skills progressively each year
    • supports pupils’ personal development, wellbeing and character

    The curriculum covers:

    • personal development
    • relationships and wellbeing
    • health and safety
    • economic wellbeing and citizenship
    • optional sex education in upper Key Stage 2

    How RHSE is taught

    RHSE is taught through:

    • weekly planned lessons
    • discussion-based and reflective activities
    • real-life contexts and scenarios
    • links to collective worship and our Christian values

    Learning is also reinforced through daily school life, where pupils are supported to apply their understanding in real situations.

    The curriculum is delivered in an inclusive and age-appropriate way, taking account of pupils’:

    • development stage
    • SEND needs
    • cultural and religious backgrounds

    Working with parents

    We value strong partnerships with parents and carers.

    During the 2025–2026 academic year, parents and carers were invited to take part in consultation regarding our updated RHSE curriculum for September 2026. This included:

    • opportunities to review curriculum information and parent materials
    • an information session in school
    • the opportunity to share questions and feedback through an online form
