This Week's News in Class 5!

5th June 2014

Our week started and ended with a visit from  Remember Buddy too?We were taught lots of different ways to stay safe and to look after ourselves.

Health and well-being has been a theme of the whole week: Josh, a coach from Notts County Football Club and Nutritionist at Loughborough University, worked with us on Monday afternoon.  Exhausting, but great fun! Bethany said " I learned the proper names of the muscles"; Tate noted " I learned the proper name for your quad muscles: quadriceps" and Imogen said "I have learned how to check my pulse".

In literacy we have been looking at persuasive adverts - we will soon  be writing our own! Two of our favourite adverts are on the persuasive adverts link below.

This week We all met Ivan the Terrible   - Miss Wilkinson's African Pygmy Hedgehog. Isn't he cute?!

Huge thanks to Aly Greenway who took Class 5 to our outside learning zone and taught us all about the Buddhist way of life. We had great fun acting out stories, listening to some very tranquil music, dressing up as Buddhist monks, (Oli didn't really shave all of his hair off!), learning how to meditate and creating our own prayer flags which have filled our classroom with kind thoughts and words. It was a wonderful and inspiring afternoon.

We have also completed writing our Greek myths and in Science we have learned about food nutrition and healthy diets. It has been a busy week: we have all worked very hard and are looking forward to a restful half term break! Photos from our inspiring afternoon are below and a video has been posted on the Look What We Have Been Up To page!frown

15th May 2014

We have had a busy week since returning from our fantastic trip to Condover Hall in Shropshire (see the photos and videos showing what we got up to!)   After writing letters to Chris, Luc and Glynn (our group leaders at Condover), we revisited place value and ordering and rounding decimal numbers in maths and in literacy we have been exploring characters from  Greek Myths and writing a diary from the point of view of one of these characters. Homework this week is to plan some ideas for writing our own myths - there are some website addresses here to help you. See if you can tell someone at home about what we learned in Science  about Dr. Lind and Scurvy!smiley
