Reading

At Archbishop Cranmer CE Primary Academy, we believe that reading opens the door to learning, imagination and opportunity. We are committed to developing confident, fluent readers who develop a lifelong love of books and reading.

Through our vision of ‘life in all its fullness’ (John 10:10), we aim to ensure that every child experiences the joy, wonder and power of reading across all areas of school life.

Our reading curriculum is carefully designed to develop:

  • fluency, accuracy and comprehension
  • rich vocabulary and language development
  • confidence in discussing and responding to texts
  • a love of stories, information texts and poetry
  • independent reading habits and curiosity about the world

Reading is prioritised throughout the curriculum and beyond. Children are exposed to a wide range of high-quality texts that reflect different authors, cultures, experiences and themes. Opportunities to read for pleasure are woven throughout school life, helping pupils to see themselves as readers and develop positive reading habits.

We work closely with families to support reading at home and believe that strong partnerships between school and home are essential in helping children flourish as readers.
