At Archbishop Cranmer we aim for all our pupils to leave our school physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport and we provide opportunities for all children  of all abilities to participate in a wide range of sporting activity.

 

Thank you to everyone who has participated in a sporting competition or festival. We have just been presented with the School Games Gold Award again!

Our netball club have come such a long way since the start of term! It is lovely being able to see them work their way up from drills and games, to playing matches. They have all done a brilliant job trying out different positions and working as a team😄

 


Year 3 and 4 have thoroughly enjoyed developing their basketball skills with @hoodsbasketball at tonight’s @rushcliffeSGO event 🏀

The whole school took part in the Joe Wicks workout for Children in Need! We loved staying fit and healthy whilst being quizzed on our world knowledge!

Jump For Heart charity skip off! We raised over £150 and pupils have enjoyed developing their skipping  skills so much - you should see the talent on the playground!

Key Stage 2 developing their communication, problem solving and orienteering skills as part of our newly developed Outdoor Adventurous Activity curriculum. 

 

Year 4 and 5 visited Trent Bridge for the Cricket County Championships between Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire. They children were thrilled to see their county team win! The children observed how the skills, that they work hard to develop, being used in a game by the professionals. 
 

 

 

Pupils in Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 have been participating in weekly cricket lessons delivered by Chance 2 Shine. Children play and learn through the cricket sessions, learning the importance of resilience, teamwork and respect. 
 

Year 3 and Year 4 developed their cycling skills with Bikeability. Level 1 and 2 complete!

World Book Day 2021 - We zoomed in with local Author, Adam McLachlan who read to us his new book 'Marley the Mindset Champion'. We learnt about the importance of having a positive mindset and showing sportsmanship. We enjoyed asking him questions about what inspired him to write his book.

Children in Y6 got to take part in their Bikeability cycle training which was missed due to lockdown in the summer term. And all the children in Y3 and Y4 enjoyed their cycle training too!

  • It was cold and very windy at Rushcliffe Country Park but our cross country relay team showed strength, resilience and determination in their race.

Our fantastic Futsal girls showed great skill and determination at this evening’s festival winning 2 out of 3 games.

Year 3/4 participated in the Sports Hall Athletics event. They did brilliantly and have earned a place in the final!

Archbishop Cranmer win the Rushcliffe "Team Work" Award!

  • Our year 5/6 girls and boys indoor athletics team came second place in Monday evening’s final. They participated in sprint, hurdles, relay, long jump, triple jump, javelin, speed bounce to name a few!

 

  • our amazing team won  the newly introduced 'teamwork award'; as voted for by all the the other school teams. What an outstanding achievement! We certainly are a great team at Archbishop Cranmer! 

 

  • All the children in KS2 enjoyed an afternoon of professional rugby coaching thanks to Nottingham Rugby Club.

 

  • Our Year 3/4 girls performed brilliantly at the Futsall competition winning both their matches!. 

 

November 19

  

  • A fantastic performance from Year 5 and 6 in the Sports Hall Athletics Heats.
  • Everyone in school joined in with Joe Wicks as he led a live work-out,  raising awareness for Children In Need  and keeping fit at the same time!

  • All of KS1 learned new dancing skills during Diwali celebration day and put on a performance for the rest of the school. Click here  to see the dance.

  • Everyone in school took part in our fun-run to support our local charity, Nottinghamshire Children's Hospital. We all managed lots of laps (including some parents). What perseverance and determination! 
  • Well done to our Year 5 & 6 footballers for a great achievement at the mini football festival on October 16.
  • Fabulous sporting attitudes from our Year 3 & 4 footballers and great resilience from our Year 5 and 6 cross country relay stars!

ImageWell done to our Year 4 and 5 girls who took part in an active morning at Holme Pierrepont Water Sports Centre playing rugby, taking part in a fun run and enjoying out door dance! Phew!

July 19

  • The results are in from yesterday’s Mini Biathlon...our girls team came 2nd place out of 14 teams, and our boys team came 3rd place out of  15 teams. A huge well done to all!

 

  • Congratulations to the Canterbury Hawks on winning the Archbishop Cranmer Sports Day 2019! We totalled the scores from Potted Sports and this afternoon's races to discover the winning team. Well done to all of the children for demonstrating such excellent teamwork today!

  • We enjoyed whole school cricket managed by our sports leaders to celebrate NationalCricketWeek
  • We are active in ALL subjects - including maths! Year 2 have been active in their maths lessons working in teams to work out the fraction of beanbags needed. 
  • The Year 4/5 Kids Quad Competition was at West Bridgford School. Our girls were amazing...sprint, long distance, mini javelin, and long jump. Thanks to parents for helping with transport and cheering on our wonderful athletes
  • All KS2 enjoyed a fantastic day at Knipton for a Cricket and countryside pursuits  activity day which included  new experiences with orienteering and even birds of prey.
  • Well done on the 18th June to  Team ABC at the year 5/6 Rounders Festival...lots of fun and even the rain held off!
  • Our Key Stage 2 children had lots of fun at the Boccia Tournament in Gamston. Competing against other teams they showed real team spirit and determination. Huge well done to you all

  • A Year 6  ski lesson at SnoZone. Safe to say that some found it much easier than others, but the main thing was no one gave up!

  • Well done to our year 3/4/5 girls and boys at the Carnarvon Annual cross country races, and congratulations to Lola who came second place in her category
  •  Our year 3/4 boys, demonstrated some brilliant cricket skills at the cricket festival on 14 May.
  • Year 5 developed safe cycling skills with their Level 2 cycle training
  • Fun times for Year 6 during the raft building challenge at Carsington Water

  • Beautiful weather for the Rushcliffe Tri-Golf competition. Well done to all our year 4/5 golfers this afternoon  and a huge thank you to parents for helping.

  • Our year 5/6 netball girls were amazing in the Rushcliffe Hi 5 Netball Competition, winning their first two games 3-0 & 4-0 narrowly missing out on the finals after their third game. Well done girls.
  • A brilliant performance at this evening’s year 5/6 Handball Festival at South Nottinghamshire Academy on April 2, followed by more handball for children in 3/4.

  • Well done to our year 3/4 boys and girls at the Sports Hall Athletics friendly. Showing off their skills in long jump, javelin, speed bounce, hurdles and relays.
  • What an amazing day Years 1 and 2 have had at Sherwood Pines  exploring the woodland and building our very own shelters.

  • A fantastic performance from our year 3-6 cross country relay team this afternoon(20 March) at Rushcliffe Country Park. Team ABC made a terrific start, securing an amazing 5th place out of 20 teams.

  • Year 2 boys had lots of fun and demonstrated some brilliant skills at today’s Indoor Cricket Festival March 5

Notts Forest/Notts FA Football tournament - Finals

 

Our amazing ABC 6-aside football team played some fantastic football, never stopped believing or battling and finished 6th in this very competitive finals tournament - Well done boys!

Carnarvon X-Country competition - 22/5/18

 

Seventeen of our ABC runners raced in the Carnarvon School X-Country event in very hot conditions - every one did their absolute best making us all incredibly proud! Davis Baker (Yr 3) returned with a very special medal for coming 2nd in his race - Congratulations Davis! 

Inter-school Netball competition - 2018

 

Our ABC netball players teamed up with players from Carnarvon and Robert Miles school for a fantastic festival of netball. The teams played some great netball, everyone developed as a player, we all had fun and the sun shone - A really lovely afternoon!

Rushcliffe Schools Yr 3/4 Quikstiks Festival - 16/5/18

 

Our quikstiks ABC team had a fantastic evening of practising and developing their skills in games against 4 other schools - we won some, drew some and lost some and had a lot of fun!

Rushcliffe Schools KS2 Boccia Competition - 15/5/18

Our ABC Boccia team maintained focus and composure to get through to the quarter finals which we lost in what was a very close match! Congratulations on finishing 4th!

Notts Schools Table Tennis League - 3rd Fixture 24/4/18

Our ABC team had another great competitive evening of table tennis. We are currently in 2nd place in the league, but with only 4 points between us and the leaders, we have everything to play for as we head to the final fixture in June!

An exciting evening at the Nottingham Forest Academy and our team won 2 games and drew the third making us winners of our group! We are through to the finals which are on the 23rd May! Congratulations Team ABC!

Rushcliffe Schools KS2 Handball Festivals - March 26th and 27th 2018 

 

Both the Year 3/4 ABC Team and the Year 5/6 ABC Team really enjoyed their first Handball Festival - everyone developed their knowledge and skills of a really great game! We will definitely be playing more handball!

Team ABC played a fantastic match against Flintham School. Both teams displayed fantastic teamwork and skills but ABC managed to score 6 goals and only conceded 1! Most importantly, everyone enjoyed it - children and spectators!

Our ABC football team enjoyed a great afternoon playing highly competitive football against 4 other Nottingham primary schools and didn't lose a match - what a fantastic achievement!

Our ABC team of 5 girls and 5 boys each participated in standing long jump, triple jump, javelin, chest throw and speed bounce as well as running in several relay events against 7 other Rushcliffe schools.

 

Our team showed great determination, super sporting ability, fabulous team spirit and finished 3rd making us all very proud!

Yr 3/4 Rushcliffe School Games Quikstiks - May 10th 4-6pm at Beckett Academy. We had a fabulous afternoon of fun, playing and developing our skills in quikstiks against 4 other schools. A great big well done to Olivia N, Joshua B, Mason P, Matthew H, Lucy T and Breige L.

On 3rd May, the Archbishop Cranmer Y5 6-a-side football team played in the Nottingham Forest / Notts Schools FA Finals tournament, having qualified in a previous tournament on 19th April. In the first 3 games we won 2-0, 3-0 and 4-0 so that meant we got through to the final where we played Bramcote Hills Primary school. After our many chances we still did not score so… we went into penalties and thanks to the best keeper in the world, Matthew Wyatt, we won because of his 3 amazing saves!

Rushcliffe Yr 3/4 Sportshall Athletics Event - April 20th 2017

A huge well done to our ABC team of athletes who competed and came 4th at this athletics event. Everyone not only did their best running, jumping, throwing and taking part in the relays, but most importantly they all reported having thoroughly enjoyed the whole event!

Nottingham Forest/Notts Schools FA U10's Tournament - April 19th 2017

ABC's 6-a-side U10's football team were incredibly excited to have been invited to play in this tournament held at the Nottingham Forest Academy and played 5 highly competitive games against some large city primary schools. We won 3 and drew 2 matches taking us through to the finals! Fantastic team effort - A massive well done to Charlie North, Zac Hardy, Joseph Hare-Goss, Ethan Hose, Arthur Dexter and Matthew Wyatt.

Rushcliffe School Games Hi-5 Netball Competition - April 19th 2017

 

This was our ABC netball team's first inter-school event and the competition was incredibly tough but our team of netballers and their coach Kirsty demonstrated amazing sporting values; in particular, determination, passion and team work. Great experience to take forward to the next netball event!

Notts Schools Table Tennis League 2016/17 - Final fixture April 2017

Our ABC table tennis team had a great evening of playing challenging and tough matches against several other school! Fantastic teamwork and it was great to see our players determination as they battled for each point - well done Freya, Jess, Zac, Ethan and Arthur!

X Country County Champs 4/2/17 - Mya Edwards and Flo Sudborough

 

A huge congratulations and well done to Mya Edwards and Flo Sudborough who ran in the County Championships on Feb 4th at Wollaton Park representing Rushcliffe Schools. They came 30th and 31st and Rushcliffe won the event overall!

The Yr 3/4 girls had a great time playing futsal against 5 other schools at Rushcliffe School Sports Hall. All the girls developed their footballing skills and were inspired to play more football in the future!

Team ABC Footballing girls had fabulous fun at the Rushcliffe Schools Futsal Event and remained unbeaten through the evening! All the girls developed their football skills and their confidence!

Our team of 10 children raced, jumped, hurdled and celebrated each others successes at the Sportshall Athletics event at Rushcliffe Leisure Centre - Fabulous sporting fun!

Nottinghamshire Schools Cross Country League (2016-2017) -  RESULTS!

 

Despite two key members of our cross country team being injured and unable to run the last race in the league on December 10th 2016, our girls team finished 4th and our boys team 5th in the league - out of the 17 Nottinghamshire schools which entered a team. Fantastic results and a huge well done to all our runners!

Well done to all our runners who gave their all and ran an amazing race! A huge congratulations to Mya Edwards and Flo Sudborough who qualified for the County Championship!

 

NOTTS SCHOOLS TABLE TENNIS LEAGUE - Dec 1st 2016 

 

Our first inter-school table tennis competition and what a great event it was! Team ABC won one match and lost the other but had lots of fun, gained lots of experience .. and are already practising for the next fixture in February!

 

Our Sports Leaders

 

Our sports leaders are already implementing their action plan, which they developed following their training. They aim to inspire and engage KS1 children in a range of planned sporting games and activities which they will lead at lunchtimes. What fabulous and inspiring sports leaders!

Sports Hall Athletics - November 2016

A team of ten Yr 5/6 pupils competed in the Sports Hall Athletics heats at The Becket Academy in November 2016 and all participated in running, throwing, jumping and relay events. Everybody pushed themselves to try and achieve their personal best in each of the events.... and the teamwork was wonderful to see as the children supported, encouraged and celebrated with each other. Our team came 3rd in the heats and we are all looking forward to the finals on the 29th November!

Sports Hall Athletics 2016 was a fun and enjoyable experience. Everyone loved participating in all the activities. I learnt how to do a standing long jump, Florrie learnt how to do a chest push, Jessica and Mya both learnt how to do a triple jump and Charlie and Alexander both learnt how to do a speed bounce, aswell as James.

        We all found our sports challenging, but we all rose to the top and achieved our goals. There were about five relay races that everyone took part in. We did extremely well and we all cheered each other on!

We have competed in several cross country events this term and the drive and determination our runners have displayed has been truly awesome! In the Rushcliffe Cross Country Relay event our boys team came 8th and our girls team came 10th out of 35 teams. In the Nottinghamshire Schools Cross Country League our girls team is currently in 4th position and our boys team is in 5th position with one event remaining on the 10th December.. Go Team ABC!

We are amazing at cross-country! In 2014 we were boys Nottinghamshire Winners and in 2015 we were Nottinghamshire runners up...Bring it on 2016!

Rugby - October 2016

We took a team of Year 3/4 pupils and a team of Year 5/6 girls to the two rugby festivals held at West Bridgford RFC. All the children enjoyed some fantastic coaching from some professional Leicester Tigers rugby coaches and played lots of tag rugby. The children reported that they had learnt lots of new skills and developed their knowledge of the game ... "I learnt that I had to always pass the ball backwards" (Breige, Yr 4). "I learnt that I needed to stay behind the ball" (Mason, Yr 3). "It showed me how important teamwork is.." (Violet, Yr 4). A big thank you to Connie (Yr 6) for taking some great photos! If your child is interested in joining a Rugby Club, we have junior members at Newark RFC, Nottingham Corsairs RFC and West Bridgford RFC (which also has a girls team).

Biathlons - October 2016

We took 24 of our KS2 children to the Mini Biathlon Festivals held at West Bridgford School in October. All children swam 25m before running 400m. For some, this was their first inter-school event where they were representing our school and there were some nerves .. but all children finished smiling having done their best and all were up for doing another Biathlon! Well done to all children who took part - you did yourselves and Archbishop Cranmer proud!

ABC Boys Football Team - October 2016

 

Our first football match was a local derby against Carnarvon Primary School played away. Our squad of 12 Yr 5/6 boys, selected and coached by Harvey, did themselves, Harvey and Archbishop Cranmer proud in what was an incredibly close match! A last minute goal scored by Charlie North resulted in a 4-3 win to us! Fantastic football, terrific teamwork and a remarkable result - Congratulations Team ABC!

Girls Football - September 2016

The sporting calendar kicked off this term with six of our Yr 3/4 girls taking part in the Rushcliffe Schools Football Festival held at Keyworth United FC - all described feeling inspired to play more football in and/or out of school. For those interested, our School Football Club runs on Thursday lunchtimes.
