Art and Design

Art and Design at Archbishop Cranmer CE Primary Academy

At Archbishop Cranmer, we follow the National Curriculum Framework for Art and Design as the basis for curriculum planning, where teaching links to the termly topic and focuses on progression of the key skills. Our aim is to inspire, engage and challenge pupils by equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment and create their own works of art. The intent is to ensure all pupils produce creative, imaginative work which they are proud of. Children have the opportunity to explore their ideas and record their experiences, as well as exploring the work of others and evaluate different creative ideas. Children will become confident and proficient in a variety of techniques including drawing, painting, sculpting, as well as other selected craft skills, such as collage, printing, weaving and pattern making. Children will also develop their knowledge of famous artists, designers and craft makers, through termly artist studies. Children will also develop their interest and curiosity about art and design through a series of lessons offering skills progression, knowledge progression and offering children the opportunity to ask questions and demonstrate their skills in a variety of ways. The lessons will offer the chance for children to develop their emotional expression through art to further enhance their personal, social and emotional development.

Art Club with Mrs Hodgson

We’re excited to announce that our after school Art Club will be continuing for new, Spring Term members on Wednesday 8th January. The club will run from 3:30pm until 4:30pm.

Art Club is a place to learn new skills and techniques, find out about interesting and innovative artists and discover your inner artist! After focusing on 'Our Community' last term, the theme for this term’s Art Club is ‘Female Artists’, where we will be producing some artwork for school display and finding out about innovative female artists who we might not have heard about before!

Children from Years 3 to 6 are welcome to attend Art Club, however spaces are limited to just 10 children on a first- come first-served basis.

If your child is interested in attending Art Club with Mrs Hodgson, please look out for next term's letter and return the slip to the school office.

Art and Design and Our Local Community

Each year at Archbishop Cranmer Primary Academy, we take part in the Vale of Belvoir Rotary Junior School Art and Photography Competition, which invites young and budding artists to enter artwork responding to a given theme.

This April, we were visited by members of the Belvoir Rotary Club to announce that one of our Year 4 pupils, Leila, had been awarded with the winning prize. We also had two best in class winners, Lola and Lotti. The winning entries were framed and displayed in Bingham Library for all to see.

Why not try your chances and enter this year's competition. The theme is 'Summer Holidays'. Download the letter below.
