Archbishop Cranmer CofE Primary Academy Striving for life in all its fullness. John 10: 10

Church Partnerships

We are very proud of our link with our local church, St Thomas', and use it regularly for whole school services and for collective worship as well as making the most of it as a wonderful resource to support our children's learning. Members of the Church community  visit us and take an active part in the life of the school as well.

We always publicise events and groups that happen at the church (see here) and have regular displays of our children's work in church.

Below are just a few of the things we have enjoyed doing at church lately.

November 2019

The local community joined us all for a beautiful Remembrance Day Service at St Thomas Church Aslockton led by  our Year 6 Leaders along with Tim Chamberlin.

October 2019

  • Our children designed a Community Christmas Card - the winning design to be made into a card and distributed to the local parish.
  • Our local community joined us for our Harvest Festival at St Thomas' Church: every child in school took part in our Harvest celebration and we took Harvest gifts to support a local community.

September 2019

  • Our Foundation stage children were welcomed to St Thomas' Church at our Welcome Service and were very happy to receive their Bibles. They were supported by our Year 5 children who helped them look for the lost sheep!
  • All of KS2 joined Bishop Alison from Hull to take part in the Nottinghamshire Out Reach event. We shared our own reflections and prayers, sang our school hymns amongst others and shared some dancing as well.
  • Sue, from Riverside Church, led whole school Collective Worship. We all enjoyed the songs and also the bookmarks!

July 2019

Seven years after their welcome service at St Thomas, we said farewell to our Year 6 children at their Leavers' Service. The children chose to sing The Lord is my Shepherd (thank you to Lucy's mum for piano accompaniment) and our school song We Being Many. Thank you to our governors for handing the children their Bibles and for handing out the awards. Please see the July newsletter for the winners of the Cranmer Cup Character and Integrity Award, the Hilary Mantel Outstanding Writing Award and the Maddison Profound Personal Development Award.

June 2019

We enjoyed a special service in Church when we took part in Thy Kingdom Come joining in the global wave of prayer calling all Christians to pray between Ascension and Pentecost for more people to come to know Jesus Christ. Thank you to Mrs Wood and to our governor Dr Bullock for helping us with some of our activities.

May 2019

Our Year 6 children had opportunity to look at differences between our church and St Oswald's in Ashbourne, Derbyshire.

April 2019

We enjoyed a wonderful Easter Service, led by KS2 children,  with all our parents and other members of the local community. Thank you to all the helpers who escorted our younger children through the village as part of their Easter Bonnet parade.

March 2019

Our KS2 children visiting Padley Chapel in Derbyshire which we compared with our local church. We impressed the staff here with our knowledge of the British Monarchy.

February

Year 1 and 2 went to St Thomas' church  to search for special artefacts and symbols of Christianity. They drew the things we found and wrote about why they were important.

Year 1 and 2 had an interesting morning at Nottingham Liberal Synagogue where they made some great comparisons between Christian and Jewish places of worship, as well as looking at some genuine artefacts and beautiful community pieces.

December

The whole school enjoyed our Christmas service in Church.

Key Stage 1 and Foundation returned to sing songs from our Nativity.

Everyone visited to look at the beautiful Christmas trees.

Our Welcome Service.

As a new Foundation Stage pupil you will get to celebrate the start of your journey with us in our beautiful village church St Thomas. 7 years later, we say a special goodbye to you in the same church!
