Miss Murphy - Class 2

Welcome to Class 2!

2023-2024

Welcome to Class 2.

This page has useful information about the day to day running of Class 2 and all about what we get up to in our busy, exciting classroom.

We work alongside Mrs Weaver, our teaching partner.
My out of class time on Thursday afternoons will be covered by Mrs Landers.

Summer term

During Summer term, we will be looking at two topics for history and geography. We begin exploring our geography topic with the question ‘What is it like to live by the coast?’ where we will  look into some of the reasons why  the coast changes over time, identifying physical and human features on the coast and conducting some research to investigate how people use the local coast.

Our history topic for this term explores the question ‘What is a monarch?’  where we will use sources to show an understanding of historical concepts, compare pictures and photographs to show changes over time and identify similarities and differences between ways of life at different times. With the central focus on monarchs, the role of a monarch and how it has changed over time.

In science, we will be investigating seeds, bulbs and plants and recognising the conditions required for germination and healthy plant growth whilst conducting our own comparative experiments to gain understanding of our topic. In art and design we are developing the use of tools and joining techniques to design and make clay houses and animal sculptures. Our design and technology project this summer term involves the children designing and making a moving monster for a specific audience with specific design criteria.

Class 2 have this and so much more to look forward to this summer term and I am so excited to share it all with them in the upcoming term.

Useful information:

PE: Our PE lessons this term are on Thursday afternoons with Mrs Landers and Friday mornings with Miss Murphy. We request that children attend school in their PE kits ready for an afternoon of PE. Please ensure that this includes some warmer clothing as we will be outdoors as much as possible. Earrings and other jewellery should be removed on this day and hair should be tied back where possible. Please ensure that all items of clothing are named.

Reading: Miss Murphy’s reading challenge, challenges each child in Class 2 to read 3 times or more to an adult outside of school each week. Reading records are collected each Friday to reward the super star readers with a dip in my goodie box.

Show and tell: In Class 2, we have a daily show and tell time - the timetable for this half term can be found below, and a paper copy is sent home each term.

Homework: Homework may be given to support or practise a concept the children have been learning. This will be sent home on a Thursday and to be returned the following Tuesday. We also send home some words each week for the children to learn to spell – spelling tests take place each Wednesday.

If you would like to share any information or expertise, or perhaps have an hour to spare to help out in Class 2, please let Miss Murphy know!
